Avery Blake

I made this quilt for a friend of mine who is having her second little girl. It is not perfect, but I am not a big quilter and don't have much experience. It turned out really cute though and since she is reusing the bedding from her first baby, it will give Avery something of her own!

Not even half.

Here are s few more things I have actually photographed. Pathetic. I have made like 6 baby gifts that I forgot to take pictures of. Doll Quilt, baby shoes, bibs, 2 dresses. So sad that I forgot. I even made a pettiskirt for a little baby and forgot to take a picture of that.

Some Updates!

Here are a few things I have neglected posting. I know pictures on hangers make them look all sad and droopy and several things are not ironed. But I figured I would just be better off to just get them up here.

First up, a mushroom skirt! This was a tutorial I found here and it is really cute and twirly on!

This is her Thanksgiving dress. I posted a picture on my family blog, but I was taking pictures anyway so I thought I would take one more.

The green one is a bright green eyelet dress I made for Charlotte's friend Ainsley. It needed a little repair so I am fixing it and sending it back home soon.

This jumper is a mish mash of several patterns- last time she wore it she got something on it and when I tried to get the stain out it bleached out the fabric in a few spots. Fortunately, I have plenty of fabric left and I am going to add a cute pocket on there to cover it up!

My favorite! This pattern is from The Handmade Dress! She has a new pattern coming out this spring and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I can't wait. Go check it out here and here. And yes, the Jessica that wants the Peter Pan collar is me.

Toddler Backpack

It is much cuter in person than in these pictures and I LOVE this pattern!! I gave this one to Ainsley since she is having a ladybug birthday party. I have another one all cut out and ready to make for Charlotte. Hopefully I will get it done before she is too big for it.

Fat Kitty

Charlotte loves her "Fat Kitty" and "Little Bird"! They are made of felt and I just embroidered them. They are even cuter in person! You can buy the pattern HERE!

Ms. Molly Dress

I have finally been sewing again!!! I bought this pattern from thehandmadedress.net and I think it is SO cute. It is called "Ms.Molly" and it is pretty simple to make, but still looks like you put some effort into it :)
Anyway, it was good to get something crossed off my list before VBS starts next week.... the only thing is that OF COURSE it is way TOO BIG. It seems like I have a closet full of stuff that just doesn't fit yet. I would say that 85% of the things I have made are just too dang big. I use the right measurements and then go down a size and they are still too big. Oh well, she will have a nice wardrobe for next Spring all lined up.

So Sad

I haven't updated here in forever!! I really just haven't had much sewing time lately! Hopefully I will be back to work next week and have some new stuff to post!

Some baby skirts

Here are a couple of skirts for Charlotte.

The green one is from a pattern I bought and it is really cute and twirly when it is on. The pink one is self-drafted and is super cute as well- I think I might add some pockets or trim or something because I do think it looks a little plain.

"Candy" Pants

These are from the Ottobre magazine. These are actually influenced by the Memphis game the other night, I cut them out during the game instead of watching. I was hoping cutting out blue&white pants would help them win...

They are pretty cute on ( I think they are supposed to be capri pants though) and should be comfortable well into the summer since they are so thin.

I used my new Ruffler foot to do the gathers at the bottom- that thing is awesome for making things even and it is so easy I can't stand that I lived without it!

You can see daddy's foot there because I couldn't get her to stand still long enough to take the picture without some assistance.

Pillowcase Dress

I am still waiting on my serger, it should be here Wednesday night!
In the meantime I tried out a pillowcase dress... I haven't trimmed the ribbons on the shoulders because I was thinking about changing them out.

I think I was subconsciously influenced by all the blue and white out there for the Tigers.

My baby model was a little uncooperative, and I didn't want to have to put her jeans back on, so I left them underneath. I actually think they are kinda cute with it though.

ETA: I don't know why the pictures seem so blurry. Could be photobucket?

Tiny Pleats

Okay, I think the reason I always procrastinate on the smocking is because I can't do it in one sitting. I like to sew clothes because I can sit down and easily make something cute in a few hours.

So of course I didn't smock yesterday- I made this instead:

This is actually leftover fabric from the dress I am smocking, and I have been wanting to try something with a collar and little pleats like this. I saw this pattern in the Otto magazine I have and decided it would be the best of both worlds. It didn't take me long and the collar was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

The shirt is really cute on, just a little bit big. I have no clue what she will wear with it, but it is one of my favorites.

Soft Baby Shoes

Okay, I know I said I was going to smock... I swear I really am. But I just had to try this!

I used a tutorial from another site; I made these from some scraps I had that were too small to use for much else. I have only finished one, but it didn't take long AT ALL. Maybe 15 minutes or so...and that includes the cutting.

FYI- if anyone wants to make these, I used the pattern sized as is and it is pretty big if you stick to the seam allowances listed. I think it said 6-9 months but I was able to put it on Charlotte- she didn't really have much room but it did go on.

Silence

I have been busy on a few things; I just can't post them yet as I want them to be a surprise.

So once I get these knocked out, I am going to concentrate on SMOCKING for a while or I will never ever get done with the dress. Maybe I will take some pictures of the work in progress and get them up later today or tomorrow.

2 Skirts for ME!

Okay, these are my first attempts at clothes for myself and they came out pretty well.

The blue one is for Easter and the other was my "practice" skirt. It is quite wearable, just not quite as perfect as the other one.

I made both of them by drafting my own pattern and using the book Sew What! Skirts- I highly recommend this to anyone who can sew a little. It does assume you have some basic sewing knowledge, but it gives all the instructions with the assumption that you don't have any special tools or equipment.

I love to wear skirts in the summer, and this will save me approx. 1 million dollars if I can keep making my own skirts.

These are both A-lines with a thick waistband, a couple of darts, and a zipper and hook and eye in the back. . Just in case you were wondering ;) The hems are actually straight- I didn't lay these out really well and I didn't want to iron them. But you can get the idea...

ETA: They are folded in half so I could fit them both in the picture- it is hard to tell when the picture is smaller. It looked normal on my computer.

Projects

My wrist and hand have been hurting lately so I have taken a 3 day break from sewing. But here are some of the projects I will be working on starting tomorrow:

2 skirts for ME!

Pants for Charlotte

2 more dresses for Charlotte

a few tops for Charlotte- I have a pattern for the red and blue dress that is just a top- I am thinking about trying that one

In case you are wondering, Charlotte has more clothes than she can probably wear this summer, but I don't care! A few of the things I have made are adjustable enough that she can probably wear them next summer too.

ALSO- I am looking for a serger- I am planning on getting one for my birthday, but in the meantime if any of you that are local know of anyone that would let me borrow one I would really appreciate it!!

Tote Bag/Diaper Bag

This is the diaper bag I made for a friend's baby shower, I think it came out really well:

Knits and Jumper

These are a couple of things I have made recently- both are from the Ottobre magazine (Spring 08).

I think they came out really well!! The blue top was my first experiment in knit fabrics (think stretchy, tee-shirty fabric) and I think it came out well. Obviously, it is too big and I didn't hem it yet; I want to wait until she is actually going to wear it so that I know how long it needs to be. She is such a shorty I think it will be too long if I go with the pattern.

The jumper is another Otto pattern that I think came out really well! It is a little big but I still think it will be cute as the weather gets warmer. It is lightweight linen fabric that I LOVE!
